The mountain in the distance is Mount Louie, offering a rewarding 11-kilometre round-trip hike with an elevation gain of approximately 725 meters. The trail begins at the Cowlick Creek staging area and winds through dense boreal forest, crossing a canal and rustic bridge before rising steadily along a northwest ridge. As hikers ascend, they encounter intermittent clearings that reveal striking vistas of Grande Cache, Victor Lake, Lightning Ridge, the Smoky River valley, and eventually the vast expanse of Willmore Wilderness Park to the southwest. The trail is well-marked and considered moderately challenging, with most hikers completing it in four to seven hours. It is also recognized as a Bronze-level summit in the Passport to the Peaks program.
The mountain is named in honour of Louis Delorme, an Indigenous patriarch of Victor Lake. He was a well-known trapper and respected mountain guide. Born in 1904 in Grande Cache, Louis was orphaned at the age of 15 and taken in by Pierre Grey. Louis’ parents died during the Spanish flu epidemic in 1918. In 1929, he married Flora Joachim, the daughter of Adam Joachim, and together they raised 14 children in Victor Lake. In 1954, Louis Delorme was also featured in the movie ‘River of No Return” starring the famous Marilyn Monroe.
